1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. The i3+ is an excellent option for those looking for a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the robot's dustbin when it is full.

Both robots do well picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they are very good in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However, unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we tested, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including putting away any clutter or toys it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clean so that they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is low it will return to its docking station, automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and takes around three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot via the app or by voice.

The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying that removes a major source of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning routines and move around the room and vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. Once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households, but it also fits in well next to the table for a coffee or the bookshelf, where you can move it around like an enchanted tool.

The V10 is powered by seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries that can provide power that is not fading for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to the task. It is able to quickly change between handheld and floor vacuum and vice versa.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and an wand clip. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. As CR's tests have shown, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. This is enough time to vacuum a typical-sized home however, it's not enough time to reach every spot. (A second pass usually works). However, this model isn't a good choice: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on low-pile carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's a great choice for people who don't wish to spend too much money on a robot. It was able to pick up the majority of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times to give an extensive clean. Its flat front side helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice feature.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models like our top picks such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It can get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways because it has fewer components that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, as it has a longer battery life, the ability to change its suction power mode manually, comes with physical boundary strips, and is operated by your phone's voice assistant. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and can perform better on floors with bare or low-pile.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that you can access through the app. You can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to monitor your pets or kids when you're away from home. The filter and the dust bin are washable to make cleanup quick and easy. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, without registering it as an incline. And the ability to set up the weekly cleaning schedule is a fantastic time-saving feature.
